O is for “Ordinary”. Yes Ordinary is regular, mundane and then special too.. and Ordinary is “Oota” ( food in Kannada) …actually the only greeting I know that is related to food in the world ” Oota aayita” (had your food) is actually an Ordinary greeting like “How are you?” Often times complete strangers on the streets in Bangalore are bound to ask you, “Oota aayita”? I am often tempted to say , “illa” ( No) , but have always nodded my head and Ordinarily said, ” Howdo” ( Yes)……
Day #8 – Dilemma & Movies, Robotics – life
I wish I could talk about one life-changing event, but can’t think of one. ” A fair or a music festival that I enjoyed”, well plenty! in fact, too many to count. It feels like, I am writing a sequel to the serially lost/found part three to me. Obviously if somebody evil were to take away something important or precious to me I would feel like I had lost something profound, and yet hope to find some meaning in the loss. I would feel miserable, sad and angry, all at the same time.
Day #7 Dear Interesting
I am writing a letter to the first word I find on a random page in a random book. And the word is “Interesting”
Dear Interesting,
Typing on my mobile with my thumb… the challenges and the conveniences of technology, I find you there. Otherwise, I have been missing you! I grew up listening to your stories. They were never boring…even when the king and queen died, I found you there! Even when I had listened to a story told over and over again, I found you there! You were my companion when I read the adventures of Fatty and the girls in the Malory towers, in books by Enid Blyton. I found you easily when I was a child.
Day #6 Backyard & Death to Adverbs
Day Eight: Death to Adverbs
I look out of my dining room window, I see little wisps of snow falling from the sky, they melt in the air, before they can touch the ground. The branches are swaying in the wind. The street outside is wet, showing no definitive sign of rain or snow.
Day#5 Conflict between feelings and thinking
Day Seven: Give and Take
I am having trouble with two, just two conflicting personalities. Besides writing dialogues is not my cup of tea, so I am just going to get done with it.
Day#4 – Touch of love
Meeting an interesting person – another difficult prompt. As I mull over this one and turn it over and over in my head. It keeps bringing back Mary to my mind, her relentless, undying spirit shines like a beacon of light and hope that nothing is impossible.
Day #3 – Short and Sweet
The watchman is blowing his whistle and beating the street with his cane and yelling, “Jagte raho” – Stay awake! Never understood why? Is it for him or the thieves? I hear footsteps, is he coming up the stairs? I rush down the stairs, that lead all the way into to the street. I see paper stuck on the dimly lit letter box at the end of the banister that reads, “Let us meet under the staircase of 1756.”
Day #2 – Committing to writing
I enjoyed writing without looking back or editing or trying to make logical sense, but somehow blogging for over six months in two blogs has made me more conscience and aware of all the grammatical mistakes and the prepositions that I swallow while writing and I have become more of a logical writer than a spontaneous one. For better or worse, I am going to attempt “one of those” spontaneous, uninterrupted versions as I commit myself to a writing practice everyday.
Day #1 – Unlocking the mind
Scribbling on a piece of paper, writing, releasing your thoughts without an agenda is so liberating and directionless at the same time. It feels like, I decided to go on a hike in the wilderness, without a plan. Looking at the trails crisscross each other in front of me gives me the delight of a choice as well as the freedom of going with what feels right rather than what is right or what may be right. Simply because with writing as with hiking, there is no right or a wrong.
